It seems to me that there is room for more tents in this section of the market, as there aren't too many lightweight/roomy ones to choose from.

On the tarp tent side you have the lunar duo (flimsy in high winds) and double rainbow (more sturdy, but a bit narrow and more exposed to the wind… vestibules don't reach down to the ground).

Then there are lightweight traditional double wall tents like the hubba hubba which only seem to be ok if you're under 6 foot. The seedhouse SL2/3 seem popular, but only have one exit.

So you're left with Big Sky tents… evolution 2P or the convertible 2P. These tents seem to be exactly what I'm after, but come with a hefty price tag and a dubious reputation for service and delivery.

I'd really love to see a beefed up version of the double rainbow or lunar duo, even if it weighed an extra 10-12 ounces. I've got a lunar duo now but wouldn't feel confident taking it above the treeline and weathering a storm.

A tent with optional extra poles (like the new scarp 1 form Henry Shires) would be ideal. Would there be any other takers?

Maybe you should just wait for the Scarp 2. No need for the extra poles for "3 season"

Well I hope he makes a 2P version. The only thing I don't like about the Scarp 1 is that the inner is mainly ripstop nylon rather than mesh. That's fine for windy and cold conditions above the treeline, but it will get a bit hot in other situations. I'd rather have an all-mesh inner because it is more versatile. I wonder whether Henry might offer this as an option…?

Just had another look at the specs of the scarp 1… there ain't a lot of headroom. With just 39 inches to the ceiling at the highest point I don't think I would be able to sit up straight in it. I just measured my "height" when sitting on the floor and I am pretty much 39 inches. Hopefully the scarp 2 will be more roomy. You can see from the photo below that the scarp 1 isn't very tall (photo from tarptent website).

I have an Emerald Mountain SL2 which is two door/two vestibule. It's a bit heavy, but shared between two people it's ~2lb a person. Not UL by any means, but if you're looking at traditional, well that's one option.

It's similar to the hubba hubba but has a bit longer floorspace. I'm 6'2" and fit just fine.

It's held up very well in driving rain and some moderate to heavy wind. Never had any issues with it. Just my $0.02 :)

I really don't know if there will be a Scarp 2 or not, just guessing…
Note that the Scarp 1 is 2-4 " higher than other similar designs but it is possible that a double version would gain a couple of inches.
Failing that, just pull the connecting ribbon between the two pole ends (webbing strap), you loose some width but gain some height (not much)

The inner of the Scarp 1 is attached to the fly via some clips , so it should be easy to adapt one of the existing bug inners with a floor.
I would be very surprised if a mesh inner hasn't been suggested already.
Note that about a third of the inner is mesh anyway, both sides, so with cross and top ventilation a full mesh inner may not be much of an advantage.

Maybe Henry will surface to give some real details rather than my guesses.

BTW, that model (Matt) is 6' 2" tall.
