so i've got a north face terra 60

and i'd like to make it lighter some how. i know that there are some rods in the back…almost like sway bars…if i take those out to make it lighter, am i really messing somethign up? what else can i do?

Probably the best way to make your pack lighter is to replace this one with a lighter one. At 4 lbs. 5 oz, you'd have to cut off a heck of a lot of stuff from the North Face one and even then, I doubt you'd be able to shave 2 or 3 pounds off of it you would need to make it "UL". You'd most likely just end up interferring with the functionality of the pack.
In the long run you are usually better off selling your pack, and picking up a pack that was specifically designed with "lightness" in mind. Are you happy with your packs capacity? Or could you get by with less? Smaller cap means less weight…jeff
