My son has the socks and so far so good – no shrinking or getting stiff with use. For the price they are a bargain.

Hang on, let me understand this clearly. You are saying that:
* SmartWool are made in Korea while Omni-wool are made in America
* Omni-wool uses a finer and therefore dearer fibre than SmartWool
* Omni-wool have a better heel that SmartWool
* BUT Omni-wool sell for up to 60% less than SmartWool

IF true, someone is making an enormous profit margin on SmartWool socks. Covers the mega advertising budget maybe?

Cheers

per Sams Club web site:

Omniwool
75% Fine Merino Wool
24% Nylon
1% Lycra Spandex.

Smartwool
did not see the breakdown – only that their
Merino Wool is from New Zealand

Could the difference be in the "mix" and in the sourcing?

smartwool breakdown seen on cabelas for one SW sock product:

73% wool,
24% nylon,
2% elastic,
1% polyester

Looks really close in this case

The Wal-Mart stocks I bought have performed pretty well through some rocky, woolly times.

Saw at sam's, socks are great deal and very high in value and quality. Tried them for a week and then went back and bought 18 prs, I have small feet and they sell them in both medium and large. That's all I wear now will use in summer due to wools wicking, wool is reported to be best in both winter and summer. I have neuropathy from an illness and most socks have hurt my feet but not these, their just great, would recommend have worn them in shoes and boots their like a hug on your foot, launder well also. Liked socks so well I also purchased 3 each of tops and pants. Haven't used pants but have used to tops their also great wool and lined inside with polyester so that there is no way they can itch, they are comfortable on warm days and warm on cool days just down right comfortable, cost at Sam's $ 19.95 top or bottom. I now prefer them to those so called proformance polyester by those big name companies, proformance is all hype and you are paying big bucks for just a name, but I did find at Adidas a polyester heavy top with a fleese bonded lining regular fit no skin tight stretchy do nothing shirt

+1

They seem to be every bit as good as smart wool socks to me and I have been using them for about a year.

Glad to see this thread. I saw these at Sam's the last time I was in there. I'll be sure to snag some next time I go. It was about $15 for 2 pair IIRC. It's hard to beat that price.
