I am reading this RMI Guides equipment list and they suggest people get light colors for their Cap 3 baselayers because it will not absorb light from the sun. Why would you do this. Isn't the whole point of having a baselayer that thick to keep you warm when it is cold out? Would you not want to have dark colors?
If you are climbing in good weather, you won't need a baselayer to keep you warm. You'll want it to keep the sun off of you and to wick sweat away. Hauling a 50 pound pack uphill on a snowfield getting pounded by the sun is going to fry you.
You will need warm clothing when you get a midnight start and climb to 14000 ft though.
This would be more for hiking around here in the flatlands in those -10 to 20F days.
I suspect it is just repetition at N'th hand of a vague bit of waffle. Sounds very technical, but doesn't stand up to close inspection in the field.
