I am planning a hiking trip to both Nepal and Patagonia for next year (Oct – Dec) and am putting together a clothing system and sleeping system will deal with all the extremes in temperature and moisture – I am expecting ie 20C (70F) to -15C (~0F) and a fair dash of rain in Patagonia. I am trying to be light weight but have 2 non-changeable items:
Tent – Hilleberg Allak (awesome tent and the girlfriend won’t tolerate anything less)
Pad – Exped downmat 7 (love the comfort)

So I am trying to leverage off the warmth of these two to decrease the weight of my sleeping system and supplement via my clothing system. Clothing I have:

Montbell – peak shell
Montane – Lite-speed
Montbell – Alpine light down parka
Montbell – UL thermawrap
Lightweight synthetic thermals
Medium weight synthetic thermals

Additional clothing I plan to get are:

Shell or windproof pants
Balaclava +/- hood +/- thermal hat

Sleeping system I was planning to use is:

Jacks R Better – Hudson River
Equinox bivy bag for the very cold nights or thermalite liner (I liked the idea of the Equinox to add a few degrees, hold the pad (will it fit inside?) and quilt together and use under just the fly when I don’t take the inner tent).

Am I asking too much of my gear? Does anyone have any suggestions? Any comments much appreciated.

I was in the Gokyo/Everest region last March.

Obviously weather is going to depend on the season a lot, but my experience was do NOT skimp on the warm clothes or sleeping bag.

I took a Feathered Friends Helios jacket and a -5 degree Fahrenheit sleeping bag. I would have been cold with anything less. Also I had a fleece shirt and merino long underwear.

Never wore my rain jacket once and did not even take rain pants. It seems like it is always dry outside of monsoon season. You should be able to save some weight here.
