I like to carry a compass with a small base plate for better map navigation, and when I need my compass to take a quick bearing, taking off the pack and digging through the ditty bags for the compass is a serious P.I.T.A.

So, I purchased this small pouch from the outdoor retailer TAD Gear, labeled BC4. My Silva Field 7 compass fits perfectly in it. It Velcro’s unobtrusivly right onto my pack shoulder strap, I now can have quick access to my compass on the fly without un-mounting my pack!

The compass weighs 1 ounce and so does the pouch…2 ounces total. Other items like a thermometer, small flashlight with batteries or whatever can fit in there for quick access. Thanks for looking!

Why don't you just hang it around your neck on the string loop? Save the weight of the pouch.

Cheers

I don't like it hanging around my neck..it's very annoying swinging around.

I hate mine around my neck too. I have the same size compass, but carry mine in my front pants pocket. It's unobtrusive, easy to access, and has never fallen out even when I sitting around during breaks or in camp.

My compass resides in the plastic baggie with my maps in an outer pocket of my pack until I get onto a cross country section. Then I like it on a cord around my neck because I'm taking a bearing or siting on a landmark every few minutes or so. Around my neck is very accessible. When I get back on trial or have a very clear course for an extended period of time, e.g. following a river, it goes back into the map pouch.

Interesting gear, even better name? But this guy stole my name! I had it first! I’m sure my folks named me before this company was formed.
Wait a minute I think I’m on the wrong thread… I was reading the one about intellectual property and who stole who’s designs Bush Buddy rip off
Sorry, you can continue…
