wood gas stoves + ti + soot

If you heat ti it will change color. Was the pot empty over the heat?

edit: Also the soot will come off if you use the proper cleaner.

The pot had water in it, maybe 500 mls. I didn't measure it. I've had this set for years, and yes, they have turned color from using alcohol stoves, giga power, wood, Esbit, you name it. But this is totally dark black, and none of it came off. What type of cleaner (other than steel wool) would remove it? I probably won't touch it, because it really looks cool.

They sell stuff that cleans glass wood stove windows. That would probably work.

But no reason to really clean it unless it was rubbing off on stuff.

I've have seen this on certain pots. The black does not come off when you touch the pot, so it's not a soot problem. With more use you'll get better heat transfer and faster boil times.

Thanks, J. I was surprised about the lack of soot on the pot, which makes me happy. I'm still fiddling around with the stove. I was thinking of making the pot stand a bit lower. Any reason why I shouldn't?
