They are the same fabric as MB's UL windshirts.
They were intended to be worn over running tights/leggings for trail running but being windproof they'd also work well for cross country skiing in Australia (because the temperatures hover around zero and there's usually lots of sunlight so warmth is not the issue it is somewhere colder like the Japanese Alps.)
