I'm thinking about purchasing this jacket in the near future. Seems like it would make a good baselayer or midlayer with lots of versatility. Anyone know how it compares with the Patagonia R1 Hoody or the various Power Stretch hoodies out there?

The only thing that makes me hesitant is the high price (I'm a poor college student). A much lower priced substitute I'm thinking of getting instead is the REI OXT Pace Half-Zip LS top…but I'm afraid that it will be vastly inferior (especially without a hood).

Any input would be much appreciated.
