nice setup you've got there. i thought the MLD serenity shelter was 8.2 oz not 10.2. how do you like the serenity shelter?

Could you post a picture with your sleeping bag in their? I'm really liking what I see here.

The MLD bug shelter is custom maid at 10.2 oz.
7 ft. by 40 inch front width by 25 inch rear width
35 inches front highth. It works great!! Very pleased with it.

The weight does not include the 12 stakes.

Thanks for pictures of these tarp systems. I've been considering switching to a tarp for my shelter and these pictures really make it less intimidating. I'm leaning towards getting either the MLD Patrol or MLD Grace Solo (fabric dependent on budget) and the MLD Serenity Shelter for use in the summer (good ventilation for humid NE summers) and the MLD Superlight Bivy for use in shoulder seasons (warm and prevents drafts). Yeah, I know…I'm a little obsessed w/ MLD.

Chris – how do you like the Spinntex EXP on your tarp? has fabric noise been an issue? also, how is the coverage on your Grace Solo?

Jay – how has your Spinntwin/Serenity combo handled bad weather/high winds? can the tarp be pitched sufficiently low enough w/ the serenity shelter to handle those situations?

Peter – I can't answer your questions fully at this point since what you see is the first pitch of the combo. They just arrived on Thursday and it'll be a couple of weeks before I can test them since I'll be on the WT3 trek next week. Just off the feel, I can't tell much difference between the new EXP and the older Spinnaker fabric. I did get a good breeze while pitching it earlier today and I don't think noise will be an issue below treeline and when pitched taut which was relatively easy. The coverage appears very adequate for solo use.

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply. I think I will probably go w/ the Spinnaker fabric on my future tarp purchase. Cuben fiber is a little out of my price range but I do not want to deal w/ the stretching of silnylon. Also, I believe spinnaker fabric is stronger than silnylon.

Does anyone have any experience w/ the MLD Patrol shelter? Any pics you could share?

Hey Peter, The GG Spinntwinn and MLD bug shelter have worked great so-far. I have been in one rain storm-but no high wind just light breezes. The Spinntwinn has alot of extra guy points for guylines (12 total). I really enjoy tarping but it has been some what of a gradual proccess. I sold all of my tents!!! Also, you can pitch the GG in A-frame style low to the ground with still alot of extra room and coverage.

How waterproof is the spinnaker fabric? What's the waterproofing, silicon?
