I have the ID Silponcho, and Denali insulated pants. Maybe that's the way to go – sale or no sale…

Anotyher vote for the Integral Designs Pertex WS. It stuffs down so small I can carry it in my rear pocket.

IMO, every windshirt should have a hood. The added weight is microscopic, the added cost minimal, but the degree of added comfort/protection is huge. If you don't need/want it, leave it down.

I just found the montbell UL wind jacket for $62 at campsaver. They also have the montbell mistral parka for $77. Both are on sale…

The jacket is 2.6oz, and the parka is 5.6oz – Is the hood worth if for $20 & 3 oz.????

I think I'm with you on the hood…

My last one had no hood & I made due because I already had it. It was a cheapie Lowe jacket that I started wearing more & more because it was so easy to pack along. But alas, it was left at my sons last football game and has not reappeared… Gone for sure.

Now I'm ready for a new one, but I only want to buy once.

You can try a Outdoor Research Ion Pullover. Not very breathable, but pretty waterproof if you need it.

If I remember correctly, they made a model after the Ion pullover, I just can't remember the name.

The MB UL wind shirt is only 1 extra oz with the hood than without. The Mistral has other differences, apparently.

I have the MB UL (hoodless) and I'm not crazy about it. I think I'd go with something that breathes better, though it is super light. More recently, I got a Houdini which feels much more pleasant to me. I'll probably dump the MB sooner or later.

The Mistral has two mesh vent/pockets = unnecessary to me.

There's a new with tags Large green Houdini posted for sale there for $89 inc shipping.

Snag that one if you can. It'll only be there about another 15 minutes tho!!

Anyone found anything else other than a Marmot Ion for tall people? I ended up having to make one out of Momentum but a second off the rack option would be good to know.
