Nice, but what's up with that 'heavy' spoon. No holes in the handle or anything? You know a taco bell spork with 1/2 the handle cut off is much lighter! ;^)

jay, nice light setup. i see you use a flint type fire starter. i have never tried one. would it light a esbit fuel tab? have always taken mini bic lighter and few waterproof matches incase lighter doesn't work. not sure if flint would be lighter than lighter+matches…thanks P.S. have that same spoon and love it….don't let anyone make fun of it..HeHe

Esbit needs a few seconds of flame before it will actually light. The Firesteel shown only makes a spark. You can use the spark to ignite something else that can provide a flame for short time. My personal favorite (because it's free!) is cotton dryer lint. I've also had good luck with alcohol, TinderQuick tabs, and cotton balls (I don't use vaseline as others do).

I need to pitch my tarp in the backyard-just because I can.

A purrr-fect set up.

I made my stand fit inside the bottom of the pot. It's much smaller and I find it's still stable enough… as long as you can find a nice flat rock somewhere.

For lighting Esbit, I use a windproof lighter. Which is really more of a small torch than a lighter. Works like a charm… in any conditions. Expensive, but worth every single cent.

I can find "blow torch" "jet" lighters but they are all piezo's, which don't work above 8000'

From what kind of can did you make the lid. I am not satisfied with way mine fits. John

Greg: My lighter is a piezo. I don't recall the brand and it's in the trunk of my car right now… but it do love it. I live and hike at or close to sea level tho'. I can see the ocean from my front window.

John: The bottom of a 5.5 oz. can of cat food… perfect fit. Almost all of those cans are made of thin aluminum… and… as my stove page states… should come in at about 3 grams.

I have the Good Cook opener and can easily remove the top of the can but how do you take off the rounded bottom that is seamless?

Do you mean the bottom of the cat food can… for making a lid? It you get an aluminum cat food can… just use plain old scissors. No special tools required.
