Golite L/S Silkweight: 3oz
Jonathan,
If you are referring to the DriMove Silk L/S, it is not a Zip top.
Did you have something else in mind?
Greg
Patagonia's Web site lists the Capilene 2 zip as 6.2 oz.
I just found a Montbell Zeo-Line 3D Mesh that is a Long Sleeve Zip, listed at 5.3 ounces.
Any other lightweights out there?
Thanks.
Yes, why the zip? I use the zipper on my fleece if necessary.
If you're going to be using such a light fabric, do you really need a zip? I mean, I use the zip on my Patagonia R1 hoodie to ventilate it when the sun comes out, but that's a fleece. If you're using a silkweight, or even such lightweight merino as the weight that BPL sells, there's not going to be a huge difference in temperature from unzipping the chest. If you're that hot, you might as well even take the thing off at that point, let it dry out, let your torso seriously cool off.
I don't own one but I have handled one of these and it feels very light and breathable- Patagonia Arius. I can't confirm but Paty lists it at 5.6 oz, I assume for men's size large.
As for a l/s lightweight shirt with a zip? I find that extra bit of ventilation makes a lot of difference, even if the shirt is of a fairly lightweight fabric.
Why the Zip requirement ? –
I'm usually hiking the Rockies, usually above 10,000, usually in constantly changing conditions. The sun is out for the uphill grinds, and it will be hailing on the downhill.
In the fall when temps tend to be lower, I have dressed in a thin SS T and a Patagonia R1, with a Patagonia Dragonfly pullover in an outside pocket for rain, cold or both. A long sleeve will provide a bit more range IF I can unzip to keep core temps down. I don't like to stop several times a day to layer/delayer. I generally don't like to stop, period.
I've tried Icebreaker 140 weight merlino because of it's touted temperature range, less stink, and comfort, but my upper body revolts as soon as I start to sweat….like a thousand pins working their way into my skin….darn.
So, onward in the quest for the lightest, synthetic, long sleeve, zip top.
Thanks all, so far, for your insights and recommendations.
Sierra Trading Post has some Comfortrel (the tag says Polarskins)LS zip-Ts for $18.95. It weighs in at 6.6 oz.
greg. you state:the merino wool shirt you have bothers you when you sweat. have you tried the bpl merino wool shirt. i tend to itch like crazy when i have tried other wool shirts. i took a chance with the bpl shirts and long pants and found them to be very comfortable. i ended up purchasing all three(long and short sleeve + long johns) and love them.
