anyone out there know of a product to dip your gear to waterproof it? i have an older canvas canoe pack that i used last week up in the boundry waters that totally got wet. it would also be nice for backpacking gear istead of the spray….thanks

Victoria,

Check with Dry Cleaning shops for wash-in wax products used to restore water repellance in canvas trench coats.

But if you really want to pack water tight, check your library for a copy of Cliff Jacobson’s book. He has an inexpensive packing method designed to float a pack for hours and have the contents still be dry (and he uses only down sleeping bags). It does not rely on the pack being waterproof … after all, it has this big hole in the top!

If your library doesn’t have it they should be able to Inter-Library Loan it. Or you could buy a copy, great book.
