This is a great idea for a pad, but I am trying to understand the R value, and how it rates compared to a ridgerest…can anyone advise please?

Both are Evazote® closed cell Crosslinked Copolymer Polyolefin foam 3/4 inch thick. Accordingly, they should be roughly identical in R value.
The Luna appears to be identical to the Gossamer Gear NightLight pad which has an R of 2.27 Both are re-makes of the now defunct Mount Washington pad.
The Ridgerest is thinner (5/8 inch) but claims a slightly higher R value of 2.6
I have one of the GG NighLight pads and did not find it to be nearly as comfortable as my Ridgerest, irregardless of which side was up.
However, I did much prefer its 60 inch length to the 47 inches of my 3/4 Ridgrest, but the added length of the GG made it bulkier when rolled. Length and rolled bulk are inversely related. I can always cut a full length RR down to 60 inches if need be. For now, I'm in love with my Big Agnes Insulated Air Core pad.
In 2003, Campmor sold the Mt Washington pads for about $18 (and $25 from manufacturer), so you see how the price went up big time. The nunatak price is a ripoff.
