I really like the yellow 8" easton stakes too. I've only ever had one head pop off, but that was after banging it in with a rock the night before when I was in a hurry in the rain. So I don't whack them anymore, and maybe subconsciously I'm more careful pulling them out.

I have a couple tents worth of 8" Eastons, most of which are at least 12 years old. I've never bent or broken one, despite using them often in areas with shallow and rocky soil. They're light and don't pull out. They don't hurt my hand when pushing them in. They don't suffer damage from pounding them in with rocks. My friend did break one by stomping on it quite hard with the sole of his boot; the direction of force he applied was not in line with the stake. I do have some of the 6" Eastons as well for the ~30% weight savings, but think I'm going back to all 8" since it's only an ounce or two and, well, they're bombproof.
