New Golite Jam?

The new Jam2 has pockets on its hip belt. I use it to store cliff bars and such, pretty handy.

These links look like they show the spring 2008 version. The first link says something about the hip belt being wider and the moosejaw link mentions padding in the hip belt. My older version doesn't have any padding so maybe this is the update. Nothing mentioned about pockets though. A padded hip belt is a welcome addition though.

Peter posted while I was making my post. Where did you get that? I can't find it. Is there padding in the hip belt as well?

My wife has a current Jam2, no hip belt pockets. She was interested in a new version but now I can't find the picture to show her!

Does your really have hip belt pockets or are you just refering to the mesh pockets on the side.

My wife just got a new Jam 2 and it does have padded hip belts, but no pockets. We are going to make some for her.

It's an interview with the GoLite guys at the Friedrichshafen Outdoor show. Lots of other good stuff on there too.

I have the mesh pockets on my Jam2 not exactly hip pockets and it does not have any padding on it. I do love it though.

Sounds like the 2009 Jam2 will have a new mesh panel back with a bit more padding and lightly padded hip belts with hip belt pockets. I'm interested to see what the back panel looks like. But, I did a google of 2009 GoLite Jam2 and can't find anything. They probably won't release it until all the 2008 stock is bought up from them. Then the retailers will cause the same type of delay. I guess we'll just have a wait a little while.

I was disappointed to find that Golite has added thick pads on the back panel. The panels of fabric where the hip belt attaches to the pack body now includes pockets – this I was happy to see.

Have you seen pictures or just listened to that podcast? The padding I'll wait to see in person I guess but if they can keep the Jam similar to the current one with just a few mods I think it will be nice. It's certainly not a SUL pack but my wife loves hers.

you may find the Jam just right for a "big" pack. This comment allows me to ponder your gear selection. For me, it is and qualifies for a "big" pack. I have the original Jam as well, and it fits my winter/shoulder kit. The new Jam2 was large enough for my 2 large summer quilts, a megabug shelter, a large cat tarp (11×10) 2 full pads plus some smaller reflectix pads for the kids- and all the junk associated for a family of 4. Yes, I pack sparingly, but I did fit gear for 2 adults, 1 child and an infant. Outside of this style of packing, im not sure the Jam2 is reasonable to use on my own. Its just too "big".
Im looking to add hipbelt pockets to it, does anyone have some tips or a pattern we could use? and can you post in the DIY section? many thanks, mike
(also a bit of mods to the pack were taking a knife to all the junk, and adding hip belt padding- shaved off about 2oz.)
I'll be awaiting to see the new Jam, hoping the wait will be worth it. The mesh pocket(s) would in my mind be a huge improvement.

I sent an e-mail to golite asking them to confirm this and the email i received back told me that the pinnacle and quest will receive hipbelt pockets but the Jam will not. That would be pretty stupid to put them on the pinnacle and not the Jam since they are sister packs. The email is contrary to what the VP said in the podcast. Who knows.

Do we know when the '09 Jam2 will be out for sale?

It would be great if I could pick an old one up for $70 on sale, but I want the hipbelt pockets!
