Montbell Thermawrap Vest Size Question

I'm interested in this as well; i'd like one as an outer layer over a baselayer and thorofare for active movement and inside my heavier down when not moving. I'm the same height as you but 10# lighter and the medium down inner parka fits me well. Are these vests the same length? That tends to be the only borderline aspect of size on my down inner.

Just a thought but even if the vest was a little tighter I wouldn't think it would matter as much as in a jacket because there aren't any sleeves where a tight fit would be restricting.

Jason, You are I are thinking the exact same thing. In colder weather I will take the thermawrap vest + UL down jacket. I love my down jacket, it is probably the only piece of gear I have not replaced in the last year, but can not wear it while hiking. So I want to take the vest when hiking in really cold weather. If it is that cold for hiking it would be nice if the vest could be used with the jacket in camp at night.

My plan….
Warm Weather = take vest only (night temp 40+)
Cool Weather = take jacket only (night temp 25+)
Cold Weather = take jacket + vest (night temp <25)

Only problem is that I have read comments that indicate the vest fits much tighter then the jacket. I'm ok with a snug fit, but I don't want it to fit so tight it restricts breathing.

Anyone that can help us on the sizing? Thanks, Jamie

I'm 6' even, 180 lbs, the size large fits me just slightly snug.

I am 5'10.5", 160# and size medium fits great.

I read a review of this vest on BPL in 2004 that said this vest fit loose and wasn't good for layering so they had wished they would snug it up a little bit. From what I read they did. They also added handwarmer pockets that it didn't use to have. I read a review on backcountry where someone wrote they had a 37" chest and the small fit them tight. That's on the large end of the small according to their size chart. I'm 38.5-39" chest and medium says 38-40" chest per their size chart. I'm not concerned about the length as my medium parka fits me in length. I went ahead and ordered a medium in black. They have them for sale for $75.00 on http://www.e-omc.com; shipping is free. I'll let you know how it fits when I get it.

Jason, It looks like we are in this thing together. I just ordered a black size medium vest from….e-omc. Every piece of Montbell gear I have ordered has been great. Hopefully the vest will be the same. I'll let you know how the medium works for me.

I forgot to thank John and Tom for your posts. It helps greatly to hear how items fit with different body sizes. Especially considering that many of us can not find such specialty items in local stores and must buy online. I'm even wondering if it makes sense to ask BPL to add height and weight to people's profiles to aid others in sizing.

Got mine today. It fits a bit snug, but it should be a good fit. There's not much fill in this vest so it needs to fit tight to keep the insulating properties. It's a good fit for layering. It weighs 5.125 oz on my scale which is right on the money for what's advertised. It packs down to about soda can size. The only complaint I have is that the zipper around the neck is a bit stiff so it's too uncomfortable to zip up all the way I have to leave a little wiggle room there. Overall though I think it's going to work well for my intended purpose and it's going to take 3 oz off my summer list. Let me know how yours ends up fitting. As long as your waist, shoulders, and neck are about the same size as mine then it should fit ok; those are the tightest areas.

Jason, My medium just showed up…unfortunately it is just too tight. I really like this item and want it to work, but I think found the problem. My wife measured my chest and it is 41.5". Mine did weigh 5.2 oz. I'm going to send it back and see if I can get a large.

My chest is about 39-40, wear a 40 regular suit jacket. I wonder if Montbell changed sizing a bit. I only wear an exofficio air strip lite shirt under mine.
