I just got a new pair of insoles today, my usual SofSole insole, and realized that you are suppose to warm them up in your oven, place them in your shoe, and stand on them so that they conform to your foot. I have done this with ski bots but never with running shoe insoles.

I'm worried that if I do this, the shape of the insole will generally lose some of the support that I love.

Has anyone ever done this with their insoles and if so, was it worth it?

I've read that using these insoles for a while will do just about as much in shaping them as will the use of heat and the minute or two of standing on the warm insoles.

Someone in another forum commented that the moldable hip belts for a few backpacks will also work the same way. Wearing them for a while accomplishes most of the shaping that heat and shorter term wearing does.

I've used thermo shaping insoles from Montrail and Sole.
You do get a similiar effect through time just by wearing them, but the effect is much less pronounced around the toes where the advantages of the thermo moulding is probably most noticable for me.
Tha advantage of "wearing them in" is that they'll probably last longer. After thermo moulding, using the insole continues to compact the modable material on the points of hardest pressure and eventually it goes rock hard and either it, or your sock, or your foot takes a hit from that.
