My favorite shirt of all time has to finally be retired because it is more holes then shirt. Does anyone know a similar shirt because Patagonia decided to discountinue it. It was perfect for anytime a year because it was so thin and comfy (its on my shoulder in my avatar).

Has it been discontinued permanently or just for the season? If permanently, try calling some of the retail stores. I found a few R1 Hoodys at the Patagonia in Boston long after they were unavailable online. BTW what size?

Are you sure that Patagonia ever made a wool 1? My recollection is that their wool base layer line starts with wool 2 and that it is their Capeline line that has a #1

I also thought that the elusive "wool 1" was yet to be introduced, so for now Patagonia's line starts with "wool 2" as their lightest layer. However, I do believe that the Backpacking Light merino clothing is what you're looking for if there was indeed such a thing as a Patagonia wool 1.

Having worn the BPL long john pants this weekend, I concur that they are very light and VERY comfy. If you are looking for a light wool shirt, I don't think you'll do better.

I am very sure that my top was a wool 1 that I puchased in 2005 thru Patagonia's web site. I will have to try the BPL Wool top this time. Too bad its only in black.

Hi,

I ordered a #2 Merino Wool top before they were selling them. The first thing I asked my CS rep was "how about #1 wool merino". I was told at that time that Patagonia tried #1 but it was not durable enough and was not offered for sale.

I must one of short lived tests then. They were right it wasnt very durable but that it was worth it for such a layerable comfy top that I wore all thru winter and summer whether at the bar or on the trail. I loved the sleeves too because they were long/stretchy and I used them as gloves when running or biking.

Hi renjen,

Thanks for the heads up on the Patagonia Wool 1.

Interesting that this free site has so much about the past OR show and all we have gotten here is three items so far.

Hi,

You are correct – but not till spring.

In the Spring line up for men Patagonia will have a mans short sleeve T-shirt using this same #1 Merino blend.

The mans T-shirt will MSRP for about $75 and has a product number of 36440. This number does not show up on the Patagonia web site yet so it might change.

I can see it now, buy two, one that fits and one as large as they make. Cut up the large sized one for material and sew long arms and add a hood to the other one.

The first #1 Mernio Wool long sleeve hoodie.

Other than the Patagonia Wool 1, it isn't too surprising from the items I saw. I can't imagine many of our members would carry the beach chair or coffee maker…

Hi – RiverRunner,

Makes you wonder doesn't it.

I had more to say about all the good info from the last OR show but I did a self-censor on it.

Just got this for about US$15. I wore it 1 day in town, then a couple days later for an overnight walk before washing it. The walk involved a little climbing and I didn't bother removing my puffy. It passed the moisture and odor test. Later it passed the wash test. The contrast stitching is brighter than in the photos, but nice imho. 166g in size medium.

Your idea on the hoody is a good one Bill. I think that would have a lot of appeal.

I'm interested to see how the blend will wear. I love my BPL wool tights, but they are so thin I am worried about durability.

Hi Everyone,

I am digging out my hoody pattern and tomorrow I will start working on a practice T-Shirt Hoody. I want to make one or two on some old t-shirts before I try it on the REAL #1 Wool T-Shirt.

I used one of the #2 Wool Short Neck Zipper versions before so I need to figure out the best way to add a hood to a round neck opening.

Stay tuned I may have a surprise in a couple of days.
