John Muir Trail Record???

Hey everyone,
I just dropped off Michael Popov at Lone Pine for his pre-acclimatization preparation of the JMT (Supported) attempt.

Michael broke the Unsupported Record last year by over a day and is now trying to seal the deal for JMT.

I will be helping him out at Woods Creek on night one and on night three at Reds Meadow.

I will also be pacing him while he leaves Reds and when he comes down from Donohue to the end.

The split times we are working on will be to try to get the record below 90 hours.

His daily stops will be
1. Woods Creek Bridge
2. Piute Creek
3. Reds Meadow

Daily mileage will be.
Start at 0600
1. 51.8 miles over 18 hours.
2. 58.2 miles over 20:45 hours.
3. 52.8 miles over 18:45 hours.
4. 56.8 miles over (finish by 0000)

I will be around to answer any questions for today and tomorrow, then I am out of here.

I expect he will crush the supported record too if he can stay injury free.

The times I have posted may seem a little off. They are the running times. Sleep times are not on there.

Good question
That is because almost nobody replies in the trips forum.

I will only be here for another day and just wanted to get the word out.

There will be much more to come in the trip report.

I, we (Michael and I) have also been trying to see if any magazines would do an article on this, and nothing.

The only maybe is the Bay Area's Competitor.

It's hard to pull strings, when you are not really a recognized Ulta Runner or know the people in the field.

We're not even sure anything will be written up on this if he gets the record.

It seems being Mr. JMT, (as I like to say), would strike some interest seeing how most of the prior records have been published in either Trail Runner or in print on the BPL Magazine.

So I guess I'm just trying to get the word out and the "G" spot is the best forum to do it in.
