After a bad experience on bivy this summer, i am reconsidering this part of my gear.
I'll used to pack a FJELLDUK PRO (HELSPORT), taking out the poncho part it was an interesting versatile tarp/bivy bag gear for around 500 g.
I actually tested it as a bivy bag in the Massif des écrins (French Alps) sleeping by 2000 m with heavy rain and 4°C temperature. After 2 hours I had to gave up due to massive condensation.
I mean i could have survive the night but no way these could provide a comfortable night of sleep. Conclusion as a bivy bag the FJELLDUK PRO should be considered as a survival blanket, no more.
Though i am looking for a more comfortable system.
I find a few carinthia bivy bag systems that seems interesting :
X-TOUR PROTECTOR / GORE-TEX + NYLON+PU – 1450 g (seems too heavy even without bag and with optimize graphite poles)
BIVY TENT TOUR GORE-TEX + sol NYLON+PU : 1000 g that should drop down to less than 800 g without the bag and with optimize poles.
And utimately the
EXPLORER TWO (military model) with 100% GORE-TEX BEST DEFENSE : 1250 that could drop dow to 1000 g with optimization.
Any feed back/experimentation around ?
