It's a great family tent, but I also carry the same tent, minus the tarp, for two. Just pull the floor back to half way, and use the front half for a vestibule.
For one, I carry the 'mid, plus a ground sheet and bug net in summer. In winter, just a ground sheet if I'm on grass/dirt or no floor if I'm on snow.
The only downside is the large footprint.
