I was hoping to be the first to order the new 4oz Thorofare Pant, but I'm confused by the sizes. The sizing chart makes them look impossibly large, but then has the note "Backpacking Light denotes garment measurements which will always be larger than your body measurements. For comparison to industry-standard body measurements, see the body measurements chart at the bottom of the page." I'm not sure what this note it telling me to DO.

Does the note mean that I should buy my usual size "M"? If I do, with they be very baggy? They don't look baggy on RJ in the photos.

Or should I buy a size down? I definitely cannot wear a size "S" waist in Ex Officio, MH, or REI brands.

Chris, did you get a prototype or something? I saw that "standard" chart, but that doesn't help me understand what a waist measurement of "31-41", might mean. I think it might mean, "the waist is very stretchy, so look at the hip size instead." Comparing the hip size to the "standard" chart, makes them look like they run a size+ large.

I'd still like to hear from BPL staff on this. That's why I started a new thread in the Product Support forum.

Hello Kerry,

I usually wear a size M across the board (REI, Patagonia, TNF) and the Size M Thorofare pant is a very good fit for me as well.

I think these run more true to size than Cocoons, in which I prefer a size S in the Hoody.

The 31-41 waist size means that because this is a drawcord waist, this is only the reasonable range of the drawcord. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a reasonable range of waist sizes it should fit.

Ryan,
Do the pants have a mesh liner? I would assume not because of the weight .

A note on the sizing of Backpacking Light's new Thorofare Collection. There was some confusion over body-sizing vs. garment sizing. I've adjusted the sizing charts to reflect body-sizing for the new Thorofare Collection pieces.

People are generally familiar with body-sizing as it is the industry standard in sizing clothing. Simply measure your body and compare see where you fit within the figures located in the sizing chart located under the heading of the particular piece you are interested in.

Some of the other charts on the sizing chart page are based on garment sizing which is to say the measurements are based on the size of the actual piece of clothing. The sizing charts are noted as such if this is the case. Sorry for the confusion.

I too was confused with the sizing. Thanks for clearing it up. Also… I can not find any mention of what the shirt and pants are made of. Am I missing something?

No, you're not missing anything. The shirt and pant are made constructed from a type of fabric which is ultimately 100% nylon.
