Wind Rivers – Smoke in Titcomb Basin?

I was in there about two weeks ago when the fire began, and have talked to folks who just came out of the mountains on sat. Seems like the smoke has died down quite a bit, though I am sure it is still hazy. I was there when it was the worst, and even then it was not too bad, and only for a day or two. No complaints about the air quality from folks coming out in the last week. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the update.

We got caught in a wildfire in Boundary Waters a couple of years ago and don't want to repeat that experience, or even be reminded of it.

Hopefully a little rain will clean things up.

Oh man – this is news to me. I'm headed to Titcomb Basin on Friday. I wonder if I should change my hike to a different area of the Winds?

You should be fine, just check to make sure your trailheads are not affected. the fire, as far as I know, has not impacted Titcomb, besides maybe some smoke. It rained a LOT last week, so I bet things are settled down in there. You can always check the interagency fire site for more details about fires. The new fork fire isn't even on there though.

Is there a good web site that gives info on weather and other things (such as fires)? I always check the Pinedale weather, but I can't imagine that is a good indication of what will happen in the mountains – and every time I call the ranger office they don't seem to be of much help.
