I'm after a trim fitting hoodless windshirt (for comparison I find my Patagonia Houdini too baggy and the drop tail is too long).

Have got my eye on the Golite Wisp and Rab Quantum – what is the cut like on these?

(edit: for reference, I'm usually size M. M in Montbell is a nice trim fit, my M R2 vest is too).

I find the Patagonia Houdini baggy as well. When I use it for running the mid section is to voluminous. I had a medium but it was to tight on my chest.

The Montane windshirt I have has a nice cut to it. Loose enough in the shoulders for light layering but trim enough in the waist not to get in the way.

Adrian, I have a Wisp size M and find it tailored just right: not baggy yet with enough room to accommodate a fleece layer comfortably if needed. The only thing don't like is the lack of a hood, otherwise, it's great!

The trouble with ultralight windshirts is that they are made of a fabric that doesn't stretch. So when you get one that "fits" like a normal shirt would, it's too constrictive to a full range of movement. I'd suggest either a) just tuck the baggy shirt into your pants to eliminate the parachute effect, or b) get a softshell windshirt made of a relatively windproof fabric that has some stretch to it. The trouble with these types of winshirts is that either 1) the shirt is made of both a UL windproof fabric (non-stretchy) but with small, non-windproof stretch panels, or 2) the fabric is simply heavy or too hot (e.g. Windpro fleece). This is why I just tuck in my windshirt, or use the bottom drawcord to stop drafts.

Hey Adrian,
the Rab Quantum is great. I have the Houdini as well and I would consider the Rab to be very athletic in comparison. I had the same issue, running in the Houdini drove me nuts, and after a while found the hood to be uselss. Check out my pic in the review for fit. I am 6'4'' and that is a large size. Snug fit, but very comfy.

Yeah the Rab Quantum windtop looks good… sadly according to Prolite, Rab have discontinued it.
