Looking for a pair of Softshell pants.

You sure you want to wear your hiking pants to work? You might drop your sandwich on them!

I am a big fan of getting them custom made at beyondfleece, since then you get a perfect fit and the features you want. But looking at their colors right now, it seems like they are mostly offering black, except in the cold fusion (for winter) or mojave (for summer), and not in the convertable steel. So that is too bad:

Both REI and MEC have reasonably price softshell pants. Cloudveil was one of the original and best (higher priced) options. Since I still think of softshells as being made of the classic schoeller materials (dynamic or dryskin), it gets endlessly confusing to figure out what all the other materials that are now available.

I have two pair of .511 pants of nylon "canvas", one tan, one O.D. green, that have double seat and knees. The double knees have an inside "pocket" that permits the insertion of their contoured 1/8" neoprene knee pads – great for rock scrambling on overland hikes.

These pants are made by .511 for police & military operators and, in my opinion, at $50. are a much better buy with more features than RailRiders' nylon pants.

on 'em!
"Seriousnessly" – softshell pants for WORK? Why not try vinyl or leather if you're into kinky pants. But then you might get compliments from the wrong types.
