I received my 1100 and 1350…so I'm quite happy. However, the lid on the 1100 is not quite right.

Edit: Never mind, just saw the disclaimer.

"Note: Due to the thin grade of titanium used in the manufacture of this item, slight imperfections may exist in how the lid sits atop the pot."

this is my second sul 1100 pot,

my wife lost the first one i bought aabout a year and a half ago , along with our stove the first day of a 5 days winter hike :)

however on the first pot the lid was fiting perfectly

on the second pot i just recieved its not the case by far.

I've also received my second SUL1100. The lid fit fairly well on the first but, like yours, the second pot's lid didn't fit very well at all. I took the time to fiddle with it by bending the lid gently over the arm of the sofa. It took several tries but I finally got it pretty flat. I did have to use a pair of pliers on the flange in order to get the flange to lie more or less flat on the pot rim.

My lid seems to be undersized a bit. Not a show stopper for me, but for $70, you'd think you could get the fit right. If I pushed hard enough (I'm not going to try), I could push the lid right into the pot.
I pulled out my 550 from last year and the fit and finish is quite nice. I suspect that BPL is aware of this but in reality, what can they do? they have already purchased a bunch of them, and they are functional in the end…hence the disclaimer is born!

Steve,
Remember when the 1100 first came out the lids fit so poorly that BPL would replace them. If yours fits as poorly as you say, it would seem to be almost unusable. I'd complain a bit.

The grade of titanium used in the Firelite SUL pots is about as thin a grade as can be used for this application and as such makes precision more difficult. The lids are designed to rest on the pot with little to no friction (for easy removal). In some cases it may seem not to fit at all.

I've handled a half dozen of each of the new models and was pleased with all their performance but everyone is understandably going to have varying levels of tolerance.

All of the above is me, BPL employee speaking. Below is me, backpacker talking.

I rarely bring lids with me when I'm backpacking anymore and if I do it's often one I've fashioned out of a pie plate. $70 is a lot to pay and then just leave part of the product at home but I require maximum performance for minimal weight and for a cook pot that means a foil lid.

Why not just offer the product line with lids made out of aluminum pie plates that are professional-looking in appearance? BPL could probably sell them for an extra $20 each, since they were such a reduced weight.

Denis,
No complaining here, my 1100 is functional and UL, which is what I expected, and what I received.

Sam,
I realize that you guys are producing and providing a niche product for this community, and I appreciate this work more then you know. I am very happy with my purchase. However, IMO, if you guys are looking at continuously improving this product, or at least meeting the quality product previously supplied, you really would want the lid to fit better on the next batch. That said, i would buy another one…:)

Steven you will be happy to know that BPL is currently taking steps in a couple different arenas to improve our products from a manufacturing as well as a design standpoint. I hesitate to put dates on these advances, but at this time it appears as though customers will begin to see these changes in late 2009.

Hi Tom

Al lids? That's not so silly you know. Easy to form too.

Cheers

Hello, I bought the SUL 1100 awhile back and just now have got back to camping mode. My Bushbuddy stove doesn't fit in the pot. My stove isn't the ultra version but I thought I had read somewhere that the dimensions were the same.

Yes now the normal and "ultra" BB have the same dimensions
i bought a normal BB first about 1,5 years ago and used it until my wife lost it, i now have a BB ultra they have exactly the same dimensions.
But when you read the BB website, it says that wasnt the case before, the normal BB used to be larger.
