MLD Poncho Tarp w/ serenity shelter

Have you considered the SMD Serenity (side entry)$120 & 7 oz combined with the SMD Gatewood Cape $135 & 11 oz?

Sure did. In fact I haven't ruled it out yet; Just trying to gather some feedback…so far, no luck!

On a side note, Ron from MLD emailed me back and said that the combo I speak of is not what he had designed the Serenity for, but could work…although not ideal due to the dimensions of the Poncho.

Still looking for that perfect combo!

I've talked to Ron about the Serenity – it works better with tarps like the Patrol or any other a-frame concept. The side entry of the poncho makes the serenity by SMD a little more logical. There are a few guys on here that sew custom work if you can't find quite what you want.

If you don't already own the Serenity shelter, I would consider the MLD Bug Bivy instead.

I have the MLD Poncho, and use it with the MLD Superlight bivy. I think you could clip the Serenity up under the tarp, using the tarps inner ridge clips, but you would have to pitch the tarp high enough to hold the Serenity up taut. If your only using the tarp in rain, ur going to want the trap pitched lower, probably. Again, I think the bug bivy, or a traditional bivy is a better choice.
