So I went backpacking last week and tried out some new footwear. I’ve been using hikers with Gore-Tex so far but the Backpacking Light book sold here suggests using lightweight trail shoes with breathable mesh so I tried it out. I’ve heard from lots of people that hiking with wet feet when it rains isn’t that bad especially compared to the accumulated perspiration in Gore-Tex shoes. I got the chance to test this out because it poured on the second day of my hike. Although having wet feet wasn’t terrible, after a few hours the skin on the bottom of my foot began to wrinkle and became really uncomfortable. The book does mention this but it also doesn’t mention any solutions. Has anyone had any experience with this and does anyone have a solution?

If you’re curious, I was wearing polypropylene liner socks and that’s it. I’ve almost never gotten a blister so I don’t really need the cushion of wool and I find the polypropylene socks cooler and easier to dry.
