Esbit/solid fuel Question

I've done it that way for years and I'm still here (most of me anyway).

I keep the Esbit tablets in an OP sack in bear country.

Are you carrying the Esbit tabs in their original packaging? (The blister thingies, where you pp one out like pills). That seems to control part of the smell.

On the soot residue, you could carry a paper towel to wrap around the pots bottom (or a bandanna). This would keep said soot off everything.

I just got a caldera cone for my titan kettle with alcohol and esbit options and haven't used esbit before; didn't know it smelled. Whats the consensus on what lightweight OP sack to use? Are aloksaks OP I have some of those already.

No – Aloksaks are not odor proof. They are designed to be waterproof only.
