I have read a few threads (on BPL and others) over the passing weeks about quilts vs bags. Some people love them some hate them…etc. I happen to be a quilt user myself, in particular the above mentioned setup. I used to use the Arc AT with the MB Down Inner but just recently received my Skaha Plus. I thought I would post some pics and specs for those interested in it. I do know that there is very limited info regarding this setup so perhaps it may be of some use to someone.

Large Arc AT @ 9.75 oz.
Large Skaha Plus w/ 1oz overfill @ 13.6 oz

Total setup weight is 23.35 oz.

The Arc AT (the quilt) is surprisingly warm, but looking back, I would have thrown an oz. of overfill in it. I feel it could go much lower with this.
The Skaha Plus has an oz of overfill and is bursting at the seams. I can't believe how puffy it gets – very impressive. It is much too warm for dead of summer camping – last time I went I just wore a sweat shirt with the AT….My thoughts are I am planning on using it as my down jacket for winter!

For size comparision, I am 6'3" and about 190 lbs.

A few pics…
Sleeping on my back, you ca see how high up the quilt goes. Wearing the jacket really eliminates any drafts.
Back Sleeper

Side sleeping, The quilt covers me nicely. Added this pic because so many people mention side sleeping in quilts.

And to top it off, my 5'0" girlfreind can use my ARC AT as a full quilt! She isn't to happy about having me take a picture of her on Saturday morning…in a quilt…so I can post it on the internet…:)

Nice pics Steve. I'm waiting on a Skaha Plus myself. I aim to combine it with my Arc Specialist and Montbell UL Down Inner pants to take me well below freezing. I never ordered any overfill. Looking at your Skaha, i don't think i'll need it! Looks good.
Why is your Skaha plus heavier than spec'd? Not including the oz overfill.

Thanks Steve, good stuff Steve. So for summer camping your weight is the quilt + your sweater? What's that around 15-16 ounces?

Mike,
I'm not sure why it's over spec. My Arc AT is 3/4 oz over aswell…no big deal. I think the Skaha Plus in quantum is supposed to weigh 10.5 oz. My 1 ounce of overfill takes it to 11.5 oz. I'm still 2 oz over spec…hmm, I did get elastic cuffs (not sure how much that adds) and a drawstring around the waist – can't remember if that is standard or not. Either way, the Skaha is soooo warm…I was absolutly not expecting such huge loft. You'll love yours when you get it.

Frank,
My Down inner was around 8oz but still too warm for dead of summer sleeping. I just bring an Arcteryx sweatshirt at about 7 oz and I'm good (Total setup is 16.75oz). If I curl up in a ball, I can get the AT over my shoulders enough to get by if the temp drops a bit more then I expected. I can't say enough about this setup.

One of the best parts about it is that I know some people really don't like the drafts that a quilt can let in if used improperly. With the Skaha (or any jacket with a half bag) you can sprawl out like a starfish and no cold air comes in.
In the past, when using the MB Down Inner, I would sometimes just drape the jacket over me if I got too hot – the full zip on the jacket has those benefits – but that's why I bring just a sweatshirt in the summer.

Tom at Nunatak is great to work with. Several years ago I sent back my Arc-Alpinist to add an extra ounce of overfill and he did it very very inexpensively.

Nunatak prices are high but you really get what you pay for and customer service is beyond best expectations.
