Hi. I really hate mosquitoes.

How high up in elevation does one have to go to escape mosquitoes?

Is there a standard elevation (e.g., 1000 meters), or does it really depend on the environment and/or specie of mosquito endemic to that environment?

I suspect that it depends on a lot of factors. I have been swarmed by mosquitoes in the Sierra up to around 12,000 feet. I'm sure that other Sierra hikers can vouch for this.

If you're near any standing water at all, or any green grassy area, you'll have mosquitoes. Any meadow, especially if green, lush and in the shade, will be a feeding ground for the little buggers.

Try to camp in areas that are arid and rocky. A breeze helps. I've walked another half hour to get to an acceptable place to camp. Even then there may be a few bothersome beasts.

Saint Peter looked down at the earth and told God that it was about time to pull the plug and start all over. He raised his horn to his lips and took a breath before God told him to hold up a moment.

"We've put so much into that little bluegreen planet, I'd like to give man another chance to get his act together." St. Peter thought a bit… "What would You do?" God frowned and said… "If we can find two of my creatures to vouch for man we'll let it boil a little longer. "I'll get right on it" said St. Peet.

He put out the call all over the earth. From the north pole to Antarctica, from East to West. All God's creatures read the questionaire. What to do? Man had treated them and their world so poorly.

Finally, as St. Peter counted down the final moments, and raised his horn, the dog ran forward, wagging his tail and barking "Oh please! Save Man. "That's one", said St. Peter. "Any other?"

Finally the Mosquito flew forward and said "Oh well, I'll vote for man too."
