Hi All,
I would like your opinion on the cabela's down vest. Has anyone compared it to other vests ? How does it stack up against the competition ?

Thanks for any and all replies !

I have a green one

Nice color
Very puffy
Hand warmer pockets outside and large pockets inside.

Heavy compared to the SUL vests, but way warmer.
Bulky when stuffed.

I paid $19 plus shipping. Great value.
I use mine under jackets in the coldest temps around
town and when skiing.

David,
Thank you for your comments. I'm still new to backpacking and really new to concepts of what is light/UL or not.

I need to read more and understand weight limits of each individual item.
It's a continuous learning process and BPL members are the best !

Cabela's certainly is not the standard for UL backpacking gear, but, you can't beat their prices. I wear Cabela's shorts most every day. Cabela's trail shorts with 5" inseam, come in 8 colors, wear like iron and cost $19.95 (sometimes on sale for $17.00). What's not to like? They're 100% cotton and as you know "Cotton Kills". But what the hey, we all got to die sometime.
