Following this post, I bought a Marmot Ion made of Pertex Quantum.

I must say that I’m complety amaze. I had a Patagonia Houdini and Velocity Jacket and the Marmot just blow them away in term of fit, breathability, hood and water resistance and weight (2.3 oz!)

Great product. Too bad they stop making it. Marmot Mountain has some left over. Don’t miss your chance.

Hi Rod,
If you are interested, I have a Montane Litespeed for sale, blue, Large, in excellent condition with the original tags, which I was going to post on eBay. You can PM me if you're interested.

FYI I'm 6 ft 175-180 with a 42" chest and the large fits me perfectly, with room to layer underneath. FYI it's highly breathable material. I've seen the Marmot Chinook and Ion and believe the material would be far less durable. The cut also does not allow layering underneath.

Best of luck in deciding on the right piece for you – a windshell is an amazingly versatile piece of gear.

Just a post to say thanks for everyone’s help on this one, esp Kevin and Colin.

Got a Marmot Ion in the post today. I held out for the sale pricing and picked it up for 25 British Pound (plus posting to Australia) I notice they are around in the US online for about US$55 at the moment.

In the end my rationale was that I wanted to go with Pertex, rather than a house brand fabric.

I chose the Ion over the Litespeed because I reasoned that if the weather looked really crappy or I was heading out for a week I’d probably be taking my Marmot Minima (Paclite)anyway.

Therefore I might as go for the lightest, most packable option I could. I also figured that at 87g, I would be prepared to carry/wear it even if I had the Minima with me, where as the Litespeed I wouldn’t. [Am I allowed to suggest that here??? ;^) ]

Thanks again for your help.

Rod
