I'm still on the quest for the perfect lite shoe.

Has anybody tried these new Salomon Fastpackers?
This is the women's shoe:

I love my XA Comp 3, they are the perfect build for me with their wide toebox, but I'll be on the JMT in Sept. thru Ansel Adams carrying a little more weight than they are usually comfortable in. I can feel small rocks thru them and they are a little loose in the heal. Tho I love their breatability I'm concerned about dusty trails and the very open mesh which lets grit and sand thru turning socks into sandpaper. It's been a while since I hiked up there but I remember the trails being pretty chewed up by horses this time of year, around Yosemite at least.

I also concerned about stabiliy and ankle rollover with the XA Comps on uneven ground, but
I'd like to find a somewhat flexible shoe with the same wide toe box and narrow heal as the Comp 3 but more cushioning and stability. Preferably a Salomon shoe.

So I was thinking about moving over to the XA Pro 3D's as I have read that they have increased heal stability. While researching this I ran into a new line, the Salomon Fastpacker 3D. Has anybody tried this shoe? I can't find out much about it on the Salomon site. That site could use a lot of improvement!

The fastpacker has the 3d chassis according to what is imprinted on the shoe. Would this make it the same last as the XA Pro 3D?

I haven't tried them but I was talking to someone who has.
We decided they are the same as the XA comp except less breathable, a stiffer upper and a longer lasting midsole. The XA comp is a running shoe and has a softer midsole, so its performance will diminish after about 300 miles. The fastpacker, sold as a hiking shoe, will have a more durable midsole, which will make it last longer but won't be as soft.
That's the only difference…
I would stick with the running shoe personally.
