Greetings all. I grew up on a bed roll and just cannot get used to the confines of a sleeping bag. Can anyone tell me of a lightweight alternative to a wool blanket and not as tight as a sleeping bag? Thanks

given the few requirments you seek, it sounds to me like a quilt is right for you. there is much info on this site about the benefits of using quilts over mummy bags. There are drawbacks as well, but I find them trivial and minimal. Try searching for Golite Ultra 20 or Jacks R Better for starters…

Jacksrbetter.com sells the "No Sniveller" Universal Quilt and I love mine.

It's been reviewed here at

The Stealth Universal Quilt (lighter, cheaper, sewn-through version) is even on sale right now. I ordered one last night.

The even less expensive version, without the "No Sniveller" style head opening that allows it to be worn as a serape has been reviewed here at

I'm sure you'll get plenty of other great recommendations.

Also, the reader reviews are one of the best features of this site, in my opinion.

Of course, YMMV.
