My wife and I are just finishing up asembling new UL gear for our first UL outing. Previously we camped mainly out of a car at camp grounds in State Parks, etc..
We decided on a couple of GoLite tarp tents and I was wondering about pitching it. I am interested in trying the half pyramid configuration with guylines to allow the front long side to be off the ground high enough to allow an adequate opening. My question is…
Along with my guylines, do I need some sort of tensioners that I see for sale here and on other online retailers? Can anyone point me to a good post on here (or elsewhere) on knots and using tensioners to create a strong, easily untieable knot?

Thanks!

Try northwestbushcraft. There is a good tarp video on youtube. I love the 1/2 P- and have used it in some heavy rains and snow. I spent one year using a Golite poncho/tarp and a bivy – 4 seasons of lightness.

Here’s the knot I use.

In this case the corners are pitched down to the ground to help protect from wind.

Thanks for the help, especially the pictures Dondo. My wife and I went out in the yard last night and pitched our tarps in the same configuration in about 5 minutes. It was a lot easier than we thought it would be. The pictures really helped!

David, make sure you seam seal the stitching around the hood. When you tie the hood off like in the picture, it pulls on the seam and will probably leak if not sealed. At least that was my experience. Best of luck…..
