patagonia houdini — size up?

Just wondering whether there is any benefit in sizing up on the Patagonia houdini?

I've just received mine (size M) and although the R1 pullover fits underneath nicely, I wouldn't like to try and squeeze anything else under there (eg. another fleece layer or a down jacket).

I assume the intention is for a trim fit, and only one or two layers underneath, but has anyone found it useful to go a size larger? Conversely, is there an advantage in keeping a trimmer fit?

Thanks, Ashley.

I would qualify the Houdini cut as trim, but not over-restrictive. I bought my normal size and it fits well.

The Houdini accels when you are moving, and thus needing fewer layers. It is surprisingly warm over a light to mid weight base layer like the R1 pullover.

I did not see the need to size up, because the Houdini can be used as a mid-layer also. Just pull your heavy fleece or down jacket on over the top. It will still block the wind and exhaust perspiration.

Plus, the Houdini will insulate and block wind best if it is relatively close fitting when you just have a light layer underneath. If you are in need of a shell or layer over the top of everything, just use your raingear.

Well, when the shirt fits tighter, it will wick better. Also, since it is to use in the wind, when it is really windy, and you sized up, than you will have lots of fabric flapping around.

I'll agree with everyone here. I have a large Houdini and take a large in most all of my clothing. I actually think the Houdini could be a touch more stream-lined in it's fit. I am 6'2"/205 lbs and I can wear a r2 vest under it no problem. If you are fit the houdini has a little extra fabric around the middle.
