I was wondering what people's experiences with hobo stoves have been. Is it better to have one that is bigger than the 'pot' and use stakes to balance the pot or smaller and to cut slits in the top so that the fire might escape? Thank you.

make a cylinder of titanium foil (titanium goat has it, you can use a like sized tin can but it is heavier)) about 5 in in diam. . use small pop rivets. and say 6 in hi. make some holes around the bottom for air make a simi circle cut in the top rim about 2 in. or so in , to allow wood to be added when lit , use a bit of hdwre cloth for a pot support on top. I use 1/4 of an esbit as a lighter (use a few drops of alcohol on it to facilitate lighting) small ssticks etc.I have some othe mods that help but this is the basis. gnome
Brett, I used one for a while a few years ago with a MSR Ti Kettle. I just cut a big apple juice can to fit the kettle, cut a crown on the top to support the pot and allow fire feeding/breathing, and used a church key to punch hoiles around the bottom. It ended up weighing about 2 ounces and worked fairly well IMO. Come to think of it…not sure why I stopped suing it?! :)
I've been working on a wood burner on and off for a while now with some success in efficiency but not in weight.
