So which Montbell down jacket would you take for winter down to say zero degrees Farenheit? I'd imagine something in the alpine line, but would you insist on parka or just jacket? Thanks.

I should have read the down jacket in sleep system thread first.
One jacket that isn't mentioned much around here is the Montbell Permafrost Parka (25 oz, 9 oz. of 800 fill). And if you're looking for warmth, at rest, down to 0 degrees you might need the loft of that parka, or something similar.
It's quite a bit more expensive than their other lines of down jackets, probably because they use Gore Windstopper rather than just using one of their in-house shell fabrics.
The Permafrost uses welded baffles, which, combined with the windstopper fabric, make the parka effectively waterproof.
However, at that price point ($350), you can start to look at comparable jackets from Feathered Friends in eVent, which would be lighter but have sewn seems so would leak. But then again at those temperatures you're not likely to see a downpour.
disclaimer: don't own it, haven't seen it, but have considered it.
