Any feedback on the BA Clearview?

I recently ordered this pad and wanted to like it…but the material seemed flimsy and had an uncomfortable, sticky feel to it. It didn't hold its shape as well and didn't seem quite as cushy as my regular BA Air Core pad. Hard to describe but it just didn't cut it….So…I returned it and am sticking with the BA Air Core and/or Insulated Air Core.

I have now used it a few weekends. It is nice and light but it does have a strange stickiness to it. Also, I got a hole very quick. I think I like it but it does seem flimsy. I am keeping it, though. I think I would like it more if it had a more vinyl feeling instead of the polyurethane sticky feeling.

Anyone else?

I have one but have not used it yet out on a hike. The stickiness does not bother me at all. It keeps you from sliding off. I think with proper care holes are not going to be a problem. Repair will be easy with any tape for quick repairs. A urethane glue will work well for long term repairs. How can you go wrong with this kind of comfort for 11 oz.

Flimsy, yes.

Also zero insulation. Under-insulation's important, like underwear… The big cold earth'll take a lot of heat out of you.

You can get a more durable, warmer pad for same weight range–and ultimately a better investment.

If cushion/thickness is important, might consider an Exped DownMat 7–I think they have a 3/4 version.

I've got one that I'll be using on an overnight this wknd. I'll post my findings when I get back.

The full length rectangular version has worked for me so far for 7 nights. Coldest evening temp was officially 47F, and damp. Absolutely zero problems so far with leaking; I use it inside a bug bivy to keep it from direct contact with the ground.

At 47F I had no problem with the mattress being cold. On this coldest night I was wearing long john bottoms and a Smartwool thin crew-top while using a very light quilt (a 50F Speer with modified width). I did get cool – from the top! Added a light wool sweater and passed out for the remainder of the night.

Slept like a baby, no aches, no pains. Also, by sticking my Fly-rocs under the head end of the mattress I did not feel the need for any sort of pillow.

My local gear shop told me I could buy up if this was not warm enough. I am not taking them up on that offer. In my opinion, this is a nice item for summer.
