Ricoh GX200

Ricoh has just announced the GX100 replacement, the predictably named GX200.
Same body and lens,24-72mm, new sensor 12.1 million pixel (from 10MP) ,new processing engine and double resolution LCD, from 230k to 460k pixels.
I would assume that the sensor is the same as the one inside the Sony W200,Canon A650 and Canon G9.
The Sony is very so so, but I was very pleased with the performance of the 650 (great value for money) and the deluxe version called G9 ( same sensor,same lens…) , so with the new processor the GX200 could be even better than the already good GX100.

Thanks Franco, for the heads-up.

Everything looks like an improvement except, ironically, the pixel count boost. Hopefully it doesn't gain noise, or excessive noise reduction, as part of the bargain.

A lof of GRDII users like the electronic level, which makes even more sense on the GX, and the teleconverter is a welcome option. More speed and better screen, everyone can agree on as a good thing!

I could have mentioned that none of the other cameras that use the same sensor are particularly good in low light , nevertheless I was pleased with my A650 night shots. But I started when we had to push process a film to get to 400 ASA, so I expect less than some …

Sony has indirectly explained that it keeps coming out with higher pixel count CCDs because that is what the public wants. I put some of the blame on the demise of so many specialist shops and the proliferation of on line sales and box movers.

The audio and visual level warning is a bonus, most of the time I need to use the grids if shooting using the screen.
