Anyone happen to use an orginal Jensen? Or, happen to own a new model?
Hi Brian,
I used one of the original ones briefly, one season I think. As I recall it was comfortable to carry. And I liked being able to drop the pack on its face and access most everything by unzipping the back. You can set it down in the mud or snow and not get the part that contacts your back wet/dirty.
Accessing the contents of the pack when it is snowing/raining can be problematic unless you pack carefully and thus don't have to zip the whole thing open.
Not sure how much it weighed. I was younger and cared less about weight.
I have never been able to trust zippers and have used top-load packs for years. That is the only reason I got rid of it.
Just clicked the link — wow, 2 lbs-plus for a frameless pack!
I trust zippers — I've had my MS Ghost for almost 5 years now — and the zippers still work perfectly — as expected. I was a traveler before I took up hiking, and in the travel world, zippers/panel loaders are a given whereas straps/top loaders are viewed with disdain and trepidation.
Methinks the fear is overblown in both worlds.
