I'm thinking about shaving weight from my Hubba Hubba tent by replacing the factory guy cords and stakes with UL options. (The factory stakes are also a bit hard to remove without using the guy cords to pull with).

Is the effort worthwhile? If so, what would you recommend? Kelty Triptease? AirCore 1?

thanks
David

PS–Would you recommend longer and/or additional guylines to improve the stability of this tent? Current setup is short loops on each corner + short loops on either side where the fly meets the ground.

I use Kelty Triptease (50 ft. weighs just 1 oz.) because of its light weight, strength, non-slip attribute, and color — which is pleasantly visible during the day and reflective at night. I know BPL sells even lighter stuff — so have a look in the shop — although be aware that some have problems with excessive slippage.

As for stakes, I like to bring one Vargo titanium nail tent stake (good for pounding into hard ground) and the rest Lazr or Vargo shepherd's hook ti stakes. These are just half the weight of their aluminum equivalents! So with 6 or 8 stakes, the weight savings will equate to a 2-mil plastic ground sheet. :)

David:

If I didn't have the Kelty Triptease already, I'd go for the MLD ones above. I believe BPL also sells it (or similar anyway).

Do you think tensioners are necessary for this tent…or should I just tie loops like the OEM guy cords? How long should the guy lines be for this tent? I'll try to take a pic and post to show what it looks like pre-mod.
