Is the Golite Ion wide enough to fit a Bearvault vertically? If so is there much clearance? Would one be able to squeeze a pad in there too?

I found the dimensions on the forums which say the pack is 22" x 9" x 7.5" which would mean that it would fit and have about 3/4" of clearance all the way around. It should fit but I'm wondering if anyone has tried.

The reason I ask is that I potentially want to use the Ion for the JMT this summer. The longest stretch without resupply would be six days of food which I can fit into a BV250. I'm thinking 400-500 ci for my quilt and 500 ci for the bear can and 500-600 ci for the rest. Sounds feasible but I would like the input of those who have more experience with the pack or have done the same thing before I waste a bunch of money and time.

Thanks Dave! That was the exact info I was looking for. You totally just saved me 50 bucks.

I had heard about the break-ins last time I was there but didn't know about the 250 restriction. At least there's a bear box there.

Best,

Roy
