packing 2L platy bottle

I generally put mine in/on last, just under the top pocket. I like to keep it out of the sun, to keep the contents a little cooler, and out of the main pack, to minimise problems if it leaks.

Ok let me propose two situations where I am wearing a bivanorak which is also my pack cover for protection from rain and abrasion:

>it is raining and to access the platy I will have to remove my pack which will get wet.

>it is cold, windy outside and I need water to remain warm atleast somewhat near body temp. I have to either use bottle cozy(=weight) or keep it close to my back (= access is not super easy).

Is there a good way to integrate 2L platy bottle?

I carry mine in the front pockets of my Aarn pack. It is easily accessible and the water, which is heavy, balances the pack behind effectively. If I were you I would engineer 2 pockets on your hip belt, also attached to the front shoulder straps to take 2 x 1 litre bladders set vertically. The attachment to the shoulder straps should stop tall pockets falling forward.

I typically use mine, with a tube, as a hydration bladder in the pack right next to my back (with the foam backpad in the pack). Seems comfortable carrying that weight high and inside the pack.

I use the ULA Conduit and if I have a full load I place my bladder in one of the side mesh pockets, if not I place it at the very top of the inside compartment after rolling down the poly pack liner.

I've carried it inside of the pack, and also in the rear mesh pocket. I could feel some effects from the weight being so far away from my body when using the mesh pocket, but it didn't seem too bad…it's not THAT far back there.

Additionally, I'm usually either using that water first, or tanking up for a dry camp that's coming up soon so I haven't really needed to carry the full bottle very far….usually just a few miles or so.

Just re-read the posts and picked up your example. Can't use a bladder?

If not, you're going to have to carry a smaller bottle (maybe one strapped on to the shoulder strap AR style) and decant out of the 2L from time to time.

?? When it is raining I rarely drink at all. Enough water is coming inwards … :-)

Poncho over the pack and me – keeps the pack a little warm from my body heat.

Derek, a comfortable waist belt will mean -extra weight.

A hydration bladder with a tube weights 3.5oz+ (platy hoser) compared to 1oz platy bottle.

For now I am considering Russell's suggestion of carrying a smaller 16oz bottle. But this setup depends on how the the upcoming redesigned mUV water purifier works with platy bottle. I contacted them few days back and they said it will work with two liter soda bottle but werent specific about platy.
