So I recently moved to Colorado and just got back from an overnighter with my four year old daughter and a friend and his six year old son. I've read on these forums that in Colorado bear bagging is sufficient, a canister is not necessary. As such, I have a nylon mesh bag, an OP sack, and some spectra cord sold here.
Last night I found this system to be lacking. It was hard finding a good branch amongst all the pine trees. I used the PCT method with a carabiner but it is still just a hassle. I'm looking at getting an Ursack but have two questions:
1) For an area that (I presume) doesn't see nearly as much bear activity as the Sierras would the V27 Ursack suffice? I'm thinking of getting the aluminum liner but as I usually do freezerbag cooking I'm not sure it's necessary (not too much to crush).
2) Do I need to hang it from a tree branch or can I treat it like a canister and maybe tie it around a tree as Ursack recommends?
