Question for Exped Downmat owners

Not so far in the two years that I've been using a downmat 9.

Sven, I haven't had that problem either. I have a suggestion – use a hair dryer to blow some hot air through the mat. You can do this by opening both valves and blowing the warm air in through one of them. (That's why there are two valves.) When down gets damp it tends to stay damp, and that might be what's causing your problem. It's a good idea to do it periodically anyway.

:-D Glad I'm not the only one! I thought I was getting senile (though I didn't go 10 mintues).

Don't use a hair dryer to blow hot air through the mat. They use a low melt point urethane coating on the inside of the mat. The heat causes the urethane coating in the area near the valve to become pourus. The mattress will then leak but not enough for you to detect the air bubbles. I am not speaking from theory. I ruined my Exped doing this.

I was planning to use the cool setting, or whatever the non heated action is .
(I haven't used a dryer for many years, hopefully that is still an option)

Richard, you are right that it can be overdone. I should have mentioned that I keep the blower on "warm."

J J, definitely you are not only one who's forgotten to check that only one valve is open when inflating!

OK – I figured that the connection between the pumpsack and the valve was too tight, thus obstructing the air flow.
Yeah! All is good.

Note that Exped have several accessory pumps for the DownMats, inc a 1.5oz mini pump and a new version of the pillow pumps (nicer than the one I have…)
