Using Rain Chaps

I just received my MLD rain chaps in the mail and wearing them and the poncho tarp, I really look like a scary homeless guy.

All I need is my MSR Kettle to hold out for donations while I stand on a street corner.

Anyway, I wanted to ask the people out there who use rain chaps if they use the foot stirup that comes with them.

While hiking, are they necessary?
